Welcome to Twig and Tale - Blog Tour

A little while ago, in the beginning of this year to be exact, I had the honor of testing a new pattern for Big Little Patterns. I created a coat for my little girl, one that she is still wearing these days now it is getting much colder.

Big Little Patterns has just recently announced their new name: Twig + Tale.

And to celebrate the name change, an international blog tour was organized.

Miranda, great in a lot of things, and also in organizing blog tours, asked me if I wanted to participate.

Well, eh, duh!! Of course!

Begin januari mocht ik van Big Little Patterns een nieuw jassenpatroon testen. Ik ging toen total loss op een hertjesjas, eentje die de dochter nog altijd draagt nu het weer wat kouder geworden is.

Big Little Patterns heet nu Twig + Tale, en om dat te vieren, organiseerde Miranda van Inspinration een blog tour. En of ik wilde mee bloggen. Uiteraard!

Apart from the Wild Things range of patterns, there is also a 'Pixie' series.

Pixies, not sure if you are aware, are mythical creatures, depicted with pointed ears and pointed hats.

They are described as mischievous, childlike, fond of dancing...

Well, isn't that just like my little girl?

Naast de 'Wild Things' reeks van patronen, is er ook een serie Pixie patronen.

Ken je Pixies? Die mythische wezentjes met puntige oren, die overlopen van de deugenieterij en overal dansend te vinden zijn?

We hadden mijn dochter Pixie moeten noemen i.p.v. Suze!

I made her the Pixie hat. The most adorable pointed hat that just fits her personality.

Unfortunately, the Art Gallery fabrics that I had chosen for my project, must have been lost in the mail. So I used some scrap fabrics from my own stash.

Voor mijn kleine meid maakte ik de Pixie muts. Een muts die zo matcht met haar persoonlijkheid.

Jammer genoeg niet in Art Gallery stoffen die ons gingen toegestuurd worden.

Ik had er mooie uitgekozen, maar ze zijn nooit gearriveerd.

Ik gebruikte dus wat ik nog kon vinden in mijn kast.

But what is a Pixie hat without a pair of Pixie shorts to complete the look?

Exactly!

I made these from a deep grey woolen fabric that I found at the thrift store.

Perfect for pairing with some cute tights and her high boots.

Geen pixie muts zonder een pixie short om een klein dwergje te kleden.

Ik maakte de short in een grijze wol die ik voor 2euro kocht in de kringwinkel.

Geweldig mooie kwaliteit!

Met zakjes in een restje contraststof.

Perfect om te combineren met een schattige kousenbroek en haar hoge laarzen.

They are a sort of bubble shorts, with pockets (perfect to show off some cute cotton scraps),

and an elastic waistband.

Isn't it adorable!?

How I just love that little angel face in her cute hat!

Deer, It's Cold Outside

I know, I know, the song goes... "Baby, it's cold outside"...
But you'll find out soon enough why I tweaked it just a little.

Not so long ago, I read about an upcoming pattern test by Big Little Patterns.
I have come across her Pixie hat on Pinterest a lot, a style I really adore.
So I was very excited to try and get into the testers group. Together with a whole bunch of other sewers, definitely more than 200, we applied and I got picked. How cool is that!

Ever so cool was the new pattern that we got to test.

Before getting to the pattern, remember the sneak preview posts last weekend?
Inside all of us is a wild thing...

Now, let's introduce: The Wild Things Coat.
Not just a coat, but a wild animal coming alive.
Little kids just adore animals. Now you will be able to make their favorite one in a coat.
A doggy, a kitten, a horse, unicorn, lion, donkey, giraffe, bear... Let your imagination go wild!

I made my little girl a deer coat.

The pattern comes with a basic part for the actual coat (fully lined) with cute pockets and a hood, and a variety of animal parts like ears, antlers, tails... There is an extensive tutorial with illustrations on how to sew the coat and how to turn it into the wild thing of your child's choice.

For my cute little deer, I used a wool fabric and lined the coat with teddy fleece and cotton for the sleeves.

The ears are made of the teddy fleece and white faux leather to make them stand up nicely. The antlers were made of the cotton and stuffed with cushion filling.

Not to forget the cute, little tail. This was made with the teddy fleece and stuffed with the same cushion filling. I used a snap button to attach the tail to the coat, so we can take it off when she is going to school (to avoid that the coat is being torn apart).

I used the faux leather to add 3 dots on the back, just for fun, with a wink to the white tail deers.

The photo's were taken at the local parc, where she met up with her 'deer' friends.

I'll let the rest of the photo's speak for themselves.
